Barriers in the world around us are at the root of disabled people’s exclusion and inequality. That means that by listening to our lived experience, co-designing and doing things differently, we can create a world that is barrier-free and level the playing field so disabled people can work, study, participate in all the things non-disabled people take for granted.
Through our extensive partnerships, GDA has become more and more involved in supporting our members to feed in to plans and consultations around our built environment.
- In the course of our other partnership work, members have conducted voluntary access audits of venues and spaces.
- GDA members have worked with Glasgow Life on their Mystery Visitors scheme, bringing diverse expertise to help improve our city’s culture and leisure facilities.
- GDA members are involved in the major refurbishment works at the Burrell Collection, and Queen Street station.
- Members have shared their views and ideas for removing barriers in Glasgow City Deal Avenues projects, and regeneration of George Square.
- Accessible Transport is a major priority for disabled people across Scotland, and GDA brings members together in dialogue with transport planners and providers at the City, Region, Scotland-wide level.
