Social Care is the bedrock of Independent Living – of disabled people’s rights to:
- Have equal choice and control over where we live and who we live with
- Access the supports we need to be fully included and participate in the community
(UN Convention on the rights of Persons with Disabilities, Article 19)
Yet evidence shows that we are a long way from these rights being realised for disabled people on a day to day basis.
The Scottish Government and COSLA are working with disabled people, and other social care users, to build a better Social Care System for Scotland.
GDA’s Future Visions project demonstrates how accessible, holistic, community based support can make choice and control a reality – tackling barriers to inclusion and participation, and creating pathways to Independent Living.
GDA Future Visions supports disabled people to share learning and lived experience, and to influence change, through our Social Care Expert Forum.
GDA members share their stories of gaining choice and control, with support from Future Visions.
