Glasgow Disability Alliance, the largest Disabled People’s Organisation in Scotland has been successful in receiving a National Lottery award from The National Lottery Community Fund.
The funding from the National Lottery Community Fund has facilitated the recruitment of a Wellbeing Advisor, which forms part of GDA’s Resilience Response: Leaving No-one Behind and builds on GDA’s existing supports to disabled people now since the impact of COVID19 and over many years of supports provided.
As a valuable member of the staff team, the Wellbeing Advisor will provide reliable, accessible health and wellbeing information, advice and support, responding sensitively and with empathy and kindness to those who call, email, write and contact us via social media.
Tressa Burke, CEO of Glasgow Disability Alliance said:
“We are delighted to have received a National Lottery Award from The National Lottery Community Fund for our new Wellbeing Advisor post. More than ever, disabled people need somewhere to turn as isolation has intensified and over 90% of 4500 people called have reported that they are worried about their physical or mental health. The Wellbeing Adviser will ensure that GDA is responsive to disabled people’s needs and will contribute to efforts of “checking in” as part of our wellbeing service. We are determined to provide a positive experience so that callers feel treated with kindness and understanding, dignity and respect and the Wellbeing Adviser will make sure that they are referred appropriately to the other services GDA offers as well as other community based and external services and supports.”
The National Lottery Community Fund, Scotland Director, Neil Ritch: said: “In these uncertain times our priority is to ensure that National Lottery money continues to flow to charities, voluntary sector organisations and grassroots groups. I would like to congratulate Glasgow Disability Alliance on their award, theirs is an important project which and will support people now and in the future when they can physically come back together to make great things happen in their community.”
