response from GDA Chief Executive

To help protect the health of everyone who works at or comes to GDA events, disabled people of all ages included, we have taken the decision to postpone all our events and learning programmes until further notice. This includes:

  • All current planned learning programme short courses.
  • All Future Visions and Employability 1-2-1 sessions.
  • Local area events planned for 20 March, 24 March and 31 March.
  • All face to face Welfare Rights support. We will continue to support people over the phone and by email.

We realise this is disappointing news but this is Government advice which we must follow. GDA employs many disabled staff and we have a duty to protect them as well as our members.

We are reaching out to our members at a time when there is a lot of uncertainty and confusion. What we do know is most GDA members will be reducing social contact as are GDA staff.

Many disabled people are socially isolated, live in poverty or indeed, do not receive the correct level of social care or support that they require. We will continue to do all we can to support them through this difficult time.

With this in mind, we have designed a survey for members – look out for this in the post soon. This will help us find out what disabled people need during the virus outbreak.

We will use this information to help us identify what GDA can do and what others could do to support disabled people at a time when they are isolated and unable to access the services and support they may need.

GDA staff will be contacting as many GDA members as we can to go through the survey, so do not worry if you do not feel able to complete this yourself. If you do complete the survey yourself, you may still get a call from a GDA staff member so they can have a chat with you about connecting you to the support and services you may need.

If you are able to get online, please check our Facebook and Twitter pages for up to date information. You can also contact us by phone 0141 556 7103, mobile 07958 299 496 and [email protected] if you need to.
